Ointment Advantan for allergies – hormonal or not?

As in other forms of the drug in question, the active ingredient in the ointment is methylprednisolone at a concentration of 0.1%. It is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid hormone. Getting on the epidermis and penetrating the dermis, it forms a metabolite that prevents the production of immune marker cells in response to the content of histamines in the blood. Thus, methylprednisolone quickly stops the inflammatory process and eliminates the clinical manifestations of allergies.

For both types of remedy (classic and fatty ointment), the indications are the same:

• neurodermatitis;
• microbial eczema;
• atopic dermatitis;
• true and microbial eczema;
• contact dermatitis, including allergic;
• dyshidrotic and children’s eczema;
• professional dermatoses.

Indications for the use of Advantan ointment sometimes include a wider range of diseases. They may be other dermatological skin lesions, characterized by the presence of an inflammatory process. Depending on the cause of the diagnosed disease and the severity of its manifestations, the specialist selects both the desired form and the acceptable dosage of the medicine.

It should be noted that dermatoses caused by a bacterial, viral or fungal infection require the simultaneous application of special antimicrobial or antimycotic local preparations.

Ointment is contraindicated with increased individual sensitivity of the body to any of the ingredients of the medication. In addition, it cannot be used in the following situations:

• age up to 4 months;
• chicken pox;
• shingles;
• rosacea;
• perioral dermatitis;
• previous vaccination and skin reaction to it.

It is necessary to carefully monitor that during use the ointment does not get into the eyes, because due to the contact of methylprednisolone with the mucous membrane, glaucoma, which is difficult to treat, may occur.

Ointment Advantan – application features

The product should be applied once a day strictly on the areas of the skin affected by a dermatological disease. In this case, the drug should not be rubbed, it is enough to leave a thin layer of the drug on the epidermis for absorption.

The full course of therapeutic measures is 3 months for adults and 4 weeks for young children.

Cases of overdose have not yet been identified, but you still need to pay attention to side effects. If swelling of the soft tissue, redness, itching of the skin develops, then it is advisable to stop treatment with Advantan. Instead, you can choose a more mild drug without the content glucocorticosteroid hormones.

Oily ointment Advantan

The described dosage form differs from the classical version in that it is produced on an anhydrous basis. It is developed exclusively on solid and liquid fats, allows you to ensure the preservation of moisture in the skin cells, and prevents its removal.

Fatty ointment is intended for the treatment of a very dry type of epidermis, prone to cracking due to peeling and dehydration. The concentration of methylprednisolone remains the same – 0.1%, as in cream, emulsion.
